After the Boston Time Capsule discovered in December 2014, here is another story about a newly found time capsule. BBC News reported the discovery, at the beginning of April, of a time capsule in Londonderry's Brooke Park. Londonderry (or Derry) is a city located in the North of Northern Ireland, and became infamous for the tragic episode known as Bloody Sunday.
In the park of what used to be a male orphan institution (demolished in 1986), a time capsule from 1840 has been discovered in the foundation of a building in Brooke park. The lead cylinder should contain coins and documents from that time. Colin Kennedy, Development manager with Derry City and Strabane Disctrict Council, said to the BBC that the presence of the box was revealed thanks to contemporaneous documents. The time capsule is now to be opened and will be looked into by the museum staff.
In October 2010, a time capsule was opened during the restoration of the Guildhall. It had been placed there in 1887, and 8 coins of differents types as well as several newspapers were found inside the box.
