Welcome to cgb.fr numismatic news

Richard Walshe sent us an email to inform us that he had been robbed on his return from Valkenburg :

The bulk of my stock and takings from the show in Valkenburg was stolen from the car in Ostend around 18:45 this evening.

If you could distribute this to any other dealers or individuals who may be able to help I would greatly appreciate your assistance,

Best Regards,

Richard

4 th International Conference of the Numismatic Coin Cabinet of the Royal Library of Belgium.

In cooperation with the Research Foundation Flanders, the Fund for Scientific Research and the Interuniversity Attraction Poles CORES

Urban versus rural contexts: differences of monetization from ancient Greece to the early Middle Ages (corner finds, taxes and trade)

Every three years, the Coin Cabinet of the Royal Library of Belgium organizes an international conference on a topic of interest to both historians, archaeologists and numismatists. The conference this year will focus on the different contexts in which the money was used. From textual, numismatic and archaeological sources, the speakers will review the monetization in urban and rural context in Greco-Roman antiquity, the Celts and during the Middle Ages. The presentations will transport listeners to Attic comedy Carolingian era markets, Celtic mints in large rural areas Gallo-Roman Sagalassos in Roman Britain. Of these various tables should emerge a clearer idea of qualitative differences in the monetization of different types of contexts, as well as research avenues to explore in the future.

This symposium will be published in 2015 in No. 161 of the Belgian Journal of Numismatics.

Location: Royal Library of Belgium, 2 boulevard de l'Empereur, 1000 Brussels. Date: May 16, 2014 Hours: 10 am to 12 pm 45 and 14 h 15 to 17 h. Registration: Participation in the conference is free, but registration is required by e-mail at the following address:celine.benamar@kbr.be
