Japan gives another dimension to numismatics.

Numismatic news

For the third consecutive year, CGB Numismatics Paris team was present at the Tokyo International Coin Convention. The Japanese experience took another dimension this year by mixing exchanges on the collection with cultural exchanges.

Mr. Futahashi, governor of the Japan Numismatic Society and editor for coins of JNDA’s “New Coins and Banknote of the World”, let us fully appreciate Japanese hospitality by inviting us to share a true traditional experience.

Ninna-ji Temple Kyoto

We stayed at the Ninna-ji Temple in Kyoto and shared a Japanese dinner. The next day, at dawn, we were able to attend a Buddhist ceremony.

The purpose of this visit to Kyoto was the meeting with Mr. Yoshida, a great Japanese collector.
He is President of the Kyoto Numismatic Associatio of more than 120 members who meet every year to share their passion: numismatics.

We had been introduced to Mr. Yoshida two years ago at a conference on the Hansatsu:

Having been sensitive to our desire to highlight the Japanese numismatics in Europe, Mr. Futahashi arranged the invitation and reservation from last July for us to visit Mr. Yoshida’s home in Kyoto.

Throughout the day, he shared, explained and presented the whole of his collection of Cash coins and Hansatsu by even animating a workshop.

The day ended with an exchange of books. Mr. Joyaux, president of the Asian Numismatic Society (https://sites.google.com/site/societedenumaticaasiaticshome/home) had dedicated two revues of the association that we were able to transmit to Mr. Futahashi and Mr. Yoshida . In return, the latter has dedicated his works to the attention of Fabienne Ramos and Samuel Gouet.

This day was really rewarding for the whole team and we are measuring the exceptional honnor we had to experience this encounter.

Nagoya

The rest of our journey took place in Nagoya, where we were invited to discover the city by Mr. Noritaka Kinukawa, member of the JNDA (Japanese Numismatic Dealers Association).
Again this day mixed numismatic and Japanese culture with a visit to the castle and museum of the city. We then went to Mr. Kinukawa's shop for exchanges on numismatics.

TICC 2017

Then, the 28th edition of the convention which took place over 3 days was a great success. Interest in French banknotes and coins increased year by year, and all of the Franc Poche books we had brought to Japan were sold. We were able to promote the catalogs of auctions in progress to visitors who came in large numbers.

TICC 2017

The show was as usual associated with a auction organized by the company Taisei Coins which celebrated its 50 years.

On Saturday evening, we were invited to share a meal with members of the Japanese Numismatic Society. This dinner gave rise to many exchanges on numismatics, the members of the Society sometimes presenting French coins in unusual states of conservation.

The organization of the show by the JNDA and the team of Taisei Coins was irreproachable.
All the merchants are unanimous, this exhibition is simply one of the most appreciated in the world, testifies the list of merchants waiting for a table that extends from year to year.
We hope to continue to establish close ties with our Japanese customers and we take this opportunity to thank Mr. Yoshida, Mr. Futahashi, Mr. Kinukawa and all members of the JNDA and of the Japanese Numismatic Society for the great welcome they reserve us for each of our visits to Tokyo.
